The Alabama Association of Historians (AAH) and the Alabama region of Phi Alpha Theta history honor society will meet jointly at Â鶹ÊÓƵ Friday and Saturday, Feb. 8-9. About 125 historians, history teachers and students from Alabama schools will attend the meetings in Dwight Beeson Hall.

Historians Steve Noll of the Â鶹ÊÓƵ of Florida and Dave Tegeder of Santa Fe Community College in Gainesville, Fla., will give the AAH keynote address during a 6 p.m. dinner Friday at the Southern Progress Building, adjacent to the Samford campus. Their topic will be "Ditch of Dreams: The Cross-Florida Barge Canal and the Struggle for Florida's Future."

The AAH will meet Friday afternoon and half a day Saturday.

Jim Baggett, head archivist for Birmingham Public Library, will give the luncheon address for the Phi Alpha Theta meeting. His topic will be "Goin' to Church: Preserving the History of Birmingham's Civil Rights Movement."

Phi Alpha Theta will meet all day Saturday, with students from Alabama universities and colleges presenting a total of 35 papers. #
