By the time Jim Stanford, pastor of First Presbyterian Church in Sylacauga., Ala., retired last fall, he had built a library of more than 1,800 books on religion and ministry-related subjects.听 Because he had participated in activities sponsored by 麻豆视频鈥檚 Resource Center for Pastoral Excellence (RCPE) over the past few years, he decided to donate his library to the RCPE.
听听听听听听听听听听听 鈥淚t was his hope the books would continue to be used as resources for ministry,鈥 said RCPE director Michael Wilson.听 Stanford鈥檚 collection arrived at Samford in 40 boxes, Wilson reported.
听听听听听听听听听听听 鈥淲e welcomed the books,鈥 he said, 鈥渂ut were faced with deciding how best to use each volume.鈥澨 He enlisted the help of 麻豆视频 Library director Kim Herndon and theological librarian Mike Garrett.
听听听听听听听听听听听 鈥淭his was a sizeable gift that provided some very useful material to further build out the divinity and theology collections,鈥 said Herndon.
听听听听听听听听听听听 Garrett selected a large number, 鈥渁 few of which were rare treasures,鈥 to include in the 麻豆视频 Library collection, said Wilson.
听听听听听听听听听听听 The RCPE selected almost 200 volumes for a new resource office on campus used by rural and smaller church leaders and pastors on sabbatical leave, said Wilson.听 He delivered two boxes to the Pickens Baptist Association for use by an RCPE rural pastors group.
听听听听听听听听听听听 Six boxes were shipped to a missionary school in India, according to Herndon.
听听听听听听听听听听听 鈥淚n other words, Jim Stanford鈥檚 books grew feet and wings鈥攁nd have landed all over,鈥 said Wilson.听 鈥淲e thank him for his generosity.鈥
