John J. (Jay) Flynn has been hired as Â鶹ÊÓƵ's new registrar effective Sept. 24.

Flynn currently is associate registrar at Radford Â鶹ÊÓƵ in Virginia. His selection follows a national search to replace Paul G. Aucoin, who is retiring Sept. 30 after 15 years at Samford.

Flynn has served in several capacities at Radford since 1994 and has been in the registrar's office since 2008. He also is an adjunct instructor in the history department. In addition, Flynn worked in the public and government sectors before going to Radford.

"We were fortunate to find someone with Jay Flynn's extensive background," said Samford Provost and Executive Vice President J. Bradley Creed. "He has a strong commitment to the mission of private higher education and also has been immersed in the same information technologies that Samford uses. He brings to his new role skills and experience that will be invaluable to the university."

Flynn has a master of arts degree in history from the Â鶹ÊÓƵ of Virginia, Charlottesville. He also earned a bachelor's degree in history and geography from Mary Washington College in Fredericksburg, Va. He has done additional graduate study in geography at Virginia Tech.

Flynn is a member of the Southern Association of Collegiate Registrars and Admissions Officials.
